On the twin-volcano island of Ometepe, Nicaragua, the CICRIN Christian orphanage cares for many children of all ages. Many of these young people are successful in school and want to attend university, but there is one major obstacle. The country’s universities are all in the sprawling capital city of Managua and there is no safe place for the orphans to live.
Plans have been developed and a construction permit has been secured to build a dormitory on the property of a church in Managua. This building will provide housing for the CICRIN students while they attend university and will also provide living quarters for the church’s pastor and his wife. God has knit together many partnerships in order to move this project forward. NFI is working in cooperation with a church partner in southern Maine, the church in Managua, a church on the island of Ometepe, the CICRIN orphanage and several other key volunteers from around the country.
Construction will begin by the end of 2011 and continue through the first half of 2012. This building project will have a profound impact for many people both now and for many years to come. Monetary donations designated for this project will be used to purchase the necessary building materials.
