Lelia’s Home

Lelia’s Home

Most of us have driven by dilapidated buildings without much thought that someone could be living there, let alone a widow. Throughout the Bible, God expresses a particular concern for widows and warns His followers not to neglect their need.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27.

In the Fall of 2011, Neighbors First responded to Lelia’s need for clean, safe, and warm housing in time for another Northern Maine winter. A new septic system was installed and a furnished house trailer was purchased, moved, and set up. Prior to removing the old building, NFI volunteers moved Lelia into her new home, giving her the “luxury” of a flushing inside toilet for the first time in many years.
